Much has been made of the Giants poor offensive production this year, and for good reason. We're lucky if we can muster 3 runs in a game and we just got swept in Denver. Granted, it was only a 2 game series, but The Rockies are the Giants' only threat in the division, and winning those games would've put the team in the driver's seat in the division. We went into Denver with a 1.5 game lead, and the Rockies came from behind to win both games. It's frustrating, but that's baseball, and the roadtrip doesn't get any easier because now the team must play two in LA. Kershaw tonite and Billingsley tomorrow, I can already hear the collective growns and city wide exacerbation.
Everyone! Please, please, please don't freak out. If the team were going through these struggles without being reigning world series champions we would all understand that we are what we are. But this added pressure can be unbearable, and the fact that we are only a .5 game out of the division lead given our season so far is reason to rejoice. Think about it, we absolutely cannot be this bad all year. The team average is probably .234, and that will change. We have too many good hitters, and our best hitter on on the shelf for the next 5 weeks. First place can wait until the last game of the season, there's no need to freak out now. As long as we can hang around and stay within reach of the Rockies we'll be ok. I promise.

"Gutless" Comments a Gutless move
Jeremy Roenick broke THE unwritten rule. Never call out your teammates, or former teammates, to the media. It's a simple rule, yet so many forget how important it is, especially for team chemistry. Just ask Andrew Bynum, whose outburst was both out of line and completely unnecessary. Stupid Andrew Bynum comments. Dude, you're a year older than me, and are on the two time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. Shame on you. I'm surprised Kobe didn't slap you silly at practice the next day, then again, he probably did.
I've been a hockey fan for...17 days now and I'm in love. If you haven't watched a hockey game before you're missing out, and now is a good time to start. The San Jose Sharks are a perennial powerhouse in the NHL, and currently hold a 3-2 series lead over the Detroit Red Wings. Game 6 is on tomorrow, May 10th, at 5 p.m. PDT. WATCH IT, it'll be awesome, I promise.
Back to Mr. Roenick. Sunday night, after the Sharks collapsed in the third period and gave up a three goal lead to lose to the Red Wings at home 4-3, Roenick (who is now an analyst for Versus) had this to say about Sharks star Patrick Marleau: "Unbelievable comeback by Detroit but an unbelievable poor effort by Patrick Marleau -- a gutless, gutless performance by Patrick Marleau. Count them, zero points in this series and he has a a game like that. "Unbelievable comeback by Detroit but an unbelievable poor effort by Patrick Marleau -- a gutless, gutless performance by Patrick Marleau. Count them, zero points in this series and he has a a game like that." Keep in mind, Roenick and Marleau were teammates in 2009.
Um, Jeremy? I'm sorry, but do you still play in the NHL? When's the last time you even skated? I rest my case. Shame on you Roenick, how could you say something like that? It's one thing to point out a player's obvious struggles in the playoffs, but to call a man "gutless" and to proclaim it as a fact, is nothing more than a ratings grab by an up and coming analyst. Everyone knows, even 8 year old basketball players in YMCA co-ed leagues, that you don't call out your teammates. If you've got a problem, deal with it in private. You are gutless, Mr. Roenick, you should know better. To each his own tho, so let me know what you think.

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to the first ever Bay Area Current sports blog. My name is Pat, and I am your host for now and forever. I hope to be able to take the current Bay Area sports happenings and put my own spin on them. I'll gladly provide my 8 cents, and would love anyone and everyone's feedback. I promise not too be too cynical, but I'm going to call it like I see it, that's why they pay me the big bucks. You're probably saying to yourself, "great, another sports blog. What's so different about this guy compared to other blogs? Other PROFESSIONAL blogs?" Well, nothing really. But, I'm 22, I know what I'm talking about and I have no one above me to question my opinion and no corporate slant that I must adhere to.
Topic numero uno, ever:
Jose Reyes.
As some of you may know, CSNBayarea.com Insider Mychael Urban reported last nite that the San Francisco Giants have had internal discussions about trading for Mets shortstop Jose Reyes.

First and only reaction by any right minded Giants fan should be "Um...So?" Basically, big whoop. Every general manager on every team has begun internal discussions about every player in the league. And what exactly does "internal discussions" mean? It's cooler talk. It's the same conversation that every Giants fan who is frustrated by the team's and especially Miguel Tejada's lack of production has had.
Top Exec 1: "What do you think about Jose Reyes?"
Top Exec 2: "He's really good, and available. Wanna get him?"
1: "Hmm...it'd be pretty cool."
2: "Yeah, it would."
Boom, shocker! End of conversation. Think about it people, although we could possibly acquire this amazing talent for members of our farm system...aren't we past the "sell the future to win now?" phase. That, thankfully ended in 2007, when Bonds uh, um, wasn't resigned/became a free agent/still refuses to retire. Anyway, Reyes is a $100 million guy, and we cannot afford that. We need to give money like that to our own guys, namely Tim, Matt, Blackbeard, etc. Our payroll is higher now, just about $120 mil., 25% of which is paid to 2 PLAYERS. As fans, we should calm down, hope for the best and know that there are plenty of other options around the league on plenty of other teams. Let's consider dishing out the big bucks after 2013 when big Z is finally off the books.
